Return to Orienteering update 22nd May 2020

The IOA sub committee who are developing guidelines for the Return to Orienteering, met last night (virtually) and have the following recommendations/requirements forĀ  clubs and individuals.

We are focusing on providing diyO options (Permanent Orienteering Courses, MapRunF courses and Pre-Marked Courses). Have a look at the links below;

Clubs have been asked to submit courses and maps for parks and urban areas. There are some individuals working on this. The variety of maps/activities will increase each week. Each map/activity is for those who are within the travel limit restrictions at that time.

From June 8th to July 20th the travel limit will be 20km. After July 20th there will be no travel limit.

June 8th to July 20th: Focus on Training events and diyO events. Training events only for members of IOA affiliated clubs.

After July 20th: Focus on club events.

Work is underway to have an online payment system in place for July 20th and also an OrienteeringID system which will simplify contact tracing should it become necessary. More details for both of these facilities will follow. No event registrations will be taken for events before July 20th.

In our return to orienteering we will have to …

1. Keep 2 meters apart

2. Not handle shared equipment

3. Protect ourselves and protect others.

4. Ensure that we adhere to the prevailing health guidelines.

More detailed guidance is being developed and will be given to clubs and to orienteers generally in the coming weeks to help deal with Covid-19 precautions.
