2013 AGM
Mactire Trophy
Laurence and Jonathan Quinn and Aoife McCavana nominated by GEN
On behalf of GEN, I would like to nominate juniors Laurence Quinn, Jonathan Quinn and Aoife McCavana for the Mactire Trophy for winning the Ad Hoc Class in the JK relays, 2012.
Conor Short nominated by Bernie O’Boyle
I wish to nominate Conor Short of CNOC for the Mactire Award. Conor competed in last years JWOC in Slovakia as an M20.
His result was an outstanding 25th in the Middle Distance ‘A’ Final from a total pool of over 170 competitors.
Silva Trophy
Frank Ryan nominated by Aonghus O’Cleirigh
I nominate Frank Ryan for the Silva Trophy for the development of orienteering, specifically the introduction of orienteering to a new part of the country – Connemara. The areas near Oughtarard used for the Irish (Shamrock) 3-day last year and IOC this year introduced new orienteering terrain of high quality. In addition Frank works with a very small team to organise the Connaght Championships annually, a Shamrock 3-day event every 2 years, and an IOC every 4 years, an inspiring feat.
Frank was nominated for the same award last year.
Lawrence Quinn nominated by Paul Keville
Lawrence Quinn for his new and updated maps to international sprint standard. E.g Marley park. and the Blanchardstown urban orienteering map.
Sean Cotter nominated by Terry Ley
I would like to nominate Sean Cotter for all the mapping he has done over the years in both Cork O and for BOC over the Years
Silva Award
Pat O’Connor nominated by WATO
I would like to nominate Pat O’Connor of Waterford Orienteering Club for his outstanding work over the past 30 years.
He was a founding member of Waterford Orienteering Club in 1985 and has kept it going ever since. He arrived at the sport via the Scouts where he has remained an important leader to this day. He has been responsible for mapping and co-mapping a large number of the southeast areas that we currently use. He has planned several Championship events in the Comeraghs. He was a member of the IOA and MOA committees in the early 1990′s as treasurer and chairperson at different stages.
Ruth Lynam nominated by Jackie McCavana
We would like to nominate Ruth Lynam for this award. Her contribution to the juniors has been colossal. Over the seven years as junior officer, she was extremely generous with her time and energy in sharing her expertise with the juniors. Her commitment has resulted in a strong committed band of juniors who have and will move on to elite level, well prepared to take on the challenges at that level and compete for Ireland. Her dedication continues in supporting the squad, much to the delight of all.
