History of Orienteering Article
While scanning old copies of the LOC (Leinster Orienteering Clubs) Newsletter I noticed this article from September 1979. Aubrey Flegg writes about one of the first orienteering events ever held in Ireland (Devils Glen 1969). I particularly liked the use of H Williams supermarket bags as Control Kites !!! Have a read.

We are pleased to invite you to visit our mysterious country “up in the north”.In summer 2013 OL-club Lynx organize a 6-days overland tour (July 1-6) in Finland from capital Helsinki to tiny town of Sotkamo, which hosts World Orienteering Championships 2013. This O-Tour-Finland will finish to WOC2013 events and there you can participate spectator races at enjoyable terrains and support your national team for medals!
Our main idea is to show you best parts of our country and to provide you unforgettable memories to be brought home. During the tour we shall enjoy unspoiled nature, visit interesting companies, get familiar with Finnish cuisine, travel by different means of transport and take a look at Finnish summer festivals (some of them are quite strange .Travelling together with other OL-minded people around the world, will not only give you more new friends, but also guarantees fun! Along the route we are of course also happy to provide you taste of different OL-experiences in Finland with short specially tailored events.
If you feel this is not enough, why not to visit Russia before or after the tour. Russian city of Saint Petersburg, with its rich cultural heritages, is easily accessible from Helsinki (just 3,5hrs by train). We are pleased to assist you with other travel arrangements as well. More information about O-Tour-Finland 2013 you can find atwww.o-tour-finland.fi and from brochure attached. Book early to benefit discounted rates!
After our 6-days tour, we believe you are ready to concentrate for orienteering challenges at WOC2013 spectators events, and to support your own national team for medals!
