Dear friends,
Waterford Orienteering Club invite you to Carlow to participate in a double sprint header. Permissions were granted today so we can now begin planning two races on September 30th as part of the European week of sport.
Race 1 will start between 10 and 1.30 from the carpark adjacent to Carlow town park S718768. It will be a standard urban race  with the longest course 5 to 6 km. Courses have not been finalised yet!  Scale of map 1;5,000 on A3. Planner: Conal Whelan. Controller: Andrew Cox
Race 2 will start between 2.30 and 4 at IT Carlow  S716 758. It will be a sprint format. The map scale wlll be 1:4,000. Planner: Andrew Cox. Controller: Conal Whelan.
Participants who run both races will be given a combined time at the end of race 2. More details to come.
These races comrpise legs 1 and 2 of a 4 part series. Still to come: Dunmore East, County Waterford on November 11th and Clonmel, County Tipperary on February 24th.

We are grateful to both Carlow sports partnership and IT Carlow sports department for their encouragement to host the events. We hope to launch a permanent orienteering course on the day of the event.

Waterford orienteering club look forward to welcoming you to twin urban/spirnt races in Carlow on 30th September (apologies to Fingal).
Conall Whelan and Andrew Cox have planned 2 courses for you all to try from expert to beginner as part of the European week of sport
Race 1 starts between 10 and 11.30 at Carlow town park. The short course (1.1.km) will remain in the safety of the park with no roads to cross. The medium (3.4 km) and long (6.2 km) courses will sample the pleasant grounds of Carlow college and the long course will take in the Castle. Some grass will be crossed but no spikes are permitted or recommended.
Race 2 starts between 14.30 and 16.00 in the grounds of IT Carlow. The long course is 3.1 km with 18 controls, the medium is 2.3 km with 17 controls and the short is 1.4 km with 13 controls. Parking wil be in the SW capark not the NW as advertised.
The times for both races will be combined.
Further details will be posted early next week.

Sounds great and I\'d love to do it but unfortunately it clashes with the VHI and the final Fingal scatter event ...

some last minute information....

There is one public (pay to use) toilet in the Town park for the morning event. I suggest that you use the Circle K at junction 5 on the motorway.
There are toilets adjacent to parking in the IT Carlow for the afternoon event.
The campus of the IT is out of bounds to all until after the event. Please follow signs for parking to the south of the Barrow centre.

There will be no print out of results but live results will be available during the events.

Controls descriptions will not be on the long maps in the morning or any of the sprint maps in the afternoon. Loose descriptions will available at the start box.
The results will be combined for both races.

We look forward to welcoming you to Carlow.

Thanks Wato for today\'s event. It was great fun and well worth the short trip down. It\'s a pity about the locked gate on th first leg but I think you made the right decision to drop that leg.
