Could you also park in some of the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre car parks?

Hi John,
you could as a member of the public, as it\'s only a short walk over. The club are not offically requesting car park usage from Blanchardstown Centre managment, as I recall we got hassle from them the last time we held an event here. I expect we\'ll have enough room in the Tolka Valley car park based on DBN attendances to date. But hey everybody, car pool if you can #HelpTheEnvironment.
Regards,
Ian.

Results are up @ https://www.orienteering.ie/result2?oaction=moreResult&id=2880

Thanks to all that attended on what was a chilly evening.
Feedback on the courses & map printing quality was generally positive.

The mandatory use of the tunnel to control 2 on the long course caused a few difficulties. The switch from kites (in the park) to plates (street area) caused a few extra seconds(!) searching for that control.

Fingal Orienteers welcome any other feedback on the event either here on this thread or directly by email to fin@orienteering.ie in order to improve future events.

Thanks Ian, Sarah, Fingal O much appreciated and good run.
Yes I was bewlidered for a while at no.2 practically standing on top of plate and si box!

Also I guessed wrong which side of fence 12 was. I put my route up, GPS ran out of gas 3 minutes before end so I drew the route as well. I\'m getting closer to Hugh...though not in running speed!

Thanks Angus. I did a quick comparison of your and Hugh\'s routes on RouteGadget. I see what you were saying about a bit of back and forth, I thought there would be more route choices to consider but as you said familiarity can decide it for the orienteer.

It would be great to simulate a route while planning, without actually running it. Does such a thing exist in any of the virtual orienteering apps/games?

Thanks Ian, Sarah and co. for an enjoyable event.

Was anyone else tempted by the performance-enhancing ice cream van?

Hi Ian,

In terms of planning without actually running, Catching features does allow for import from OCAD. I have done this for some event I planned a few years back but it requires a bit of effort to do the conversion if you are new to it, and a lot of effort if you want the conversion to be good.

Another tool I have used for urban races is the 2DRerun course planning module (http://news.worldofo.com/2015/02/26/introducing-the-2drerun-courseplanning-module/). This lets you draw in the routes you see for each individual leg. When you look at the course as a whole then things like out and back legs would show up. Below is an example from the long leg at the selection race in UL last year. I did also run some of these variants too though!
