The third event in the 2017 Dublin By Night #orienteering series takes place on Saturday, 28th January, at Tolka Valley Park, Blanchardstown.

The event will contain a mix of park and street orienteering.

Start times between 18:00 and 19:00. Two courses, approximately 2.5km & 4.5km. Courses close at 20:30. SportIdent timing. The maps are pre-marked on waterproof paper.

Parking is in the Tolka Valley car park with capacity for twenty cars, signposted from Blanchardstown Centre roundabout and Corduff Road intersection.

Event entry fees; €8 adults, €16 families, €5 students, OAPs, unwaged. SI rental: €2

For insurance reasons night events are only open to age classes M/W16 and above.

Closest public transport: bus 39/37 to the Blanchardstown Centre terminus and 5 min walk, or suburban train to Castleknock Station and 25 min walk.

Hi John,
you could as a member of the public, as it\'s only a short walk over. The club are not offically requesting car park usage from Blanchardstown Centre managment, as I recall we got hassle from them the last time we held an event here. I expect we\'ll have enough room in the Tolka Valley car park based on DBN attendances to date. But hey everybody, car pool if you can #HelpTheEnvironment.

Thanks to all that attended on what was a chilly evening.
Feedback on the courses & map printing quality was generally positive.

The mandatory use of the tunnel to control 2 on the long course caused a few difficulties. The switch from kites (in the park) to plates (street area) caused a few extra seconds(!) searching for that control.

Fingal Orienteers welcome any other feedback on the event either here on this thread or directly by email to fin@orienteering.ie in order to improve future events.

Thanks Angus. I did a quick comparison of your and Hugh\'s routes on RouteGadget. I see what you were saying about a bit of back and forth, I thought there would be more route choices to consider but as you said familiarity can decide it for the orienteer.

It would be great to simulate a route while planning, without actually running it. Does such a thing exist in any of the virtual orienteering apps/games?

If you look at my route you\'ll see I had a \'moment\' there 🙂
