With Setanta hosting this year\'s Leinster Championships on the 19th of April, UCD Orienteering Club have decided to host a sprint event on UCD campus the preceding day. The map was previously used just over two years ago as part of the Irish Colleges Campus Sprint Series, and has recently been updated by UCDO members Laurence Quinn and Cillín Corbett to reflect the constant changing nature of a university campus. (Please note the event has not yet been added to the fixtures list).

Start times: 16:00 \'til 18:00
Course closes: 19:00
Final details will be posted on the forum ASAP.

Looking forward to seeing you all there,
Niall McCarthy,
Event Organiser.

Roy Harford was also involved in mapping the north west area of the campus.

Course details, along with more information, will be available here tomorrow evening.

Here are some further details for UCDO\'s campus sprint event this coming Saturday, 18th April.

This event is open to everybody, so please do join us if you are new to orienteering! The UCD campus has undergone plenty of change since our last event there two years ago. Courses will take in the new lake and the new science building.
It is unlikely to be busy on a Saturday afternoon but competitors are warned to take care when crossing roads.

Remember that this is a sprint event, using an ISSOM map, and therefore competitors are forbidden from crossing certain features. These may well be physically crossable but it is how they are defined on the map that indicates whether they are crossable or not. Such features include uncrossable walls (thick black line), uncrossable fences (thick black line with tags), hedges (dark green line) and flowerbeds (olive green). We will not hesitate to disqualify any competitors seen crossing such features.

Competitors are required to enter UCD from the N11 at the Belfield flyover. There will be signs to direct you from this entrance to the parking area. Parking will be in the car park just north of O\'Reilly Hall.

PLANNER: Laurence Quinn
CONTROLLER: Jonathan Quinn
ORGANISER: Nialler McCarthy

MAP SCALE:
1:4000 with 2.5m contours

COURSES:
Long - 3.0km - 20 controls
Short - 2.0km - 12 controls

The finish area is 100m from parking and the start is 100m from the finish area. Both courses will have a spectator control visible from the finish area.
Note that the stated distances describe the length of the best possible route and not the straight line course distance.
Most controls will use stakes but trestles will be used where necessary.
SI timing will be used. SI cards can be rented at registration for €2. Remember to download whether you finish or not, so we know you have completed your race.

START TIMES: 4pm to 6pm, with courses closing at 7pm.

ENTRY FEES:
Adults - €5
Juniors/Students/OAPs - €3

This will be a great way to warm up for the Leinsters on the Sunday. Hopefully we\'ll see you all there!
