Fingal Orienteers would like to welcome you to the Sport Ireland Campus Sun 16 January  for our Come And Try It orienteering event. This is a new map redrawn by Eileen Young. This event is a mix of university campus-style buildings, playing pitches, and green forested areas. Although there is some vehicular traffic on some of the roads, it should be slow moving.

Start times : 11:00-13:00

Classes available ( PRE-ENTER ON orienteering.ie ONLY)  :

Short : 2km

Medium : 4km

Long : 8km

Climb is negligible on all courses

SI will be used for timing and rental SI cards will be available on the day

The short course will mostly be on paths with some controls slightly off paths, having to go through grass or unpaved to reach these. The medium course is a mix on paths and off, not too difficult. The long course has a bit of everything and will go through woods at different stages so full leg wear is recommended.

Map : 1:5000 A3 redrawn by Eileen Young December 2021 from the 2020 map updated by Val Jones and Eileen Young, from the original by Laurence Quinn and used by kind permission of Orienteering Ireland. The event takes place entirely in the Sport Ireland Campus and does NOT cross into the Tolka Valley Fingal map.

Directions to the Event

The event is located at the Sport Ireland Campus, Blanchardstown, Dublin, which is close to the M50 and N3/M3

This can be found HERE  https://www.google.com/maps/search/national+sports+campus/@53.3964113,-6.3670749,16z/data=!3m1!4b1

The Start and Finish are located at Abbotstown House in the centre of the Sport Ireland Campus, and *** NOT  *** the National Aquatic centre , which is at the main entrance.  This is not simple to get to, so here are detailed directions from the main gate  https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1JAORIXjd77WraUBYT_wgSWh6PEoH4neV&ll=53.394877276825696%2C-6.363902148501552&z=16.   O-Signage will be available from the main Sport Ireland Campus gate.

Please leave plenty of time to get there to be assured of a start as the M50 and Blanchardstown areas can be notoriously jammed up.

If driving or cycling you will need to pass two barriers. One is at the first roundabout and should lift automatically - no need for payment. The second should always be up at the first right turn. When coming back (carefully) change lanes as the barrier at the right turn will not lift. However the barrier at the roundabout will lift ( again no payment required at any barrier ).   There is ample car parking and Abbotstown House is brightly lit at night.

If using public transport then there are several bus options 220, 238, 38, 38a from the City Centre and Blanch shopping centre and then walk through to Abbotstown House which should take about 15 mins from the main gate.

Organiser : Ian Murphy

Planner : Sean Kearns

Controller : Eileen Young

The maps for this event will be on A3 waterproof paper.
To facilitate better estimation of course/map volumes for Prontaprint Wednesday,
it would assist us greatly if prospective competitors could enter online as soon as possible.

The shoe is mine, I can post picture of the right one as proof!!

No rush at my end for it to be returned, but I expect to be at Phoenix Park and Donadea next weekend.

Due to an issue discovered with splits in the results, caused by course naming, the event results have been uploaded again.
This has overwritten the previous results so the following entrants that uploaded their GPX files to RouteGadget will have to re-upload.
Day event
Long; Angus Tyner, Kieran Beausang, John O'Donovan, Alexey Marchenko
Short; Ian Murphy

I'm aiming to be at Donadea so I'll leave your O shoe at the download area if I don't see you Angus.
