What\'s this, a local event that requires pre-entry!!!
Fingal Orienteers, with the Irish Orienteering Association, are taking their response to the Covid-19 pandemic seriously. One of the methods of achieving that is to minimise interaction at events and having an alternative method for payment than the norm.
We explored a pre-payment system that the IOA are working on but the most expedient option was to use Fabian4 that most of you are familiar with as it is used at provincial championships.
The club has also spent time exploring and using MaprunF, the Australian orienteering application ( http://maprunners.weebly.com/quick-guide.html ) that is used to great success in the UK. It is ideally suited to an urban event and many of you will be used to going for a run with your phone (to musical accompaniment). Although we had some concerns about its usability across the broad spectrum of age profiles that orienteer, it is a fantastic tool to have in an environment where lockdowns are in place and minimising contact is a priority.
The club agreed to use both these facilities together to make our Skerries event as safe as possible for you, the orienteering community, our club members and indeed the public at large.
I encourage you to support the continuing return to orienteering and attend the event.
Pre-entry closes at midnight tonight Monday on the Fabian4 site @ http://www.fabian4.co.uk/default.aspx?EventID=2641
See you in Skerries!
Regards,
Ian Murphy
(Fingal Orienteers Chairperson)
