Who should do it?

The course is aimed at those who will be introducing beginners to the sport of orienteering and assisting novices to improve their orienteering skills.

Course Aim

The aim of this course is to train and qualify candidates as instructors, who will introduce beginners to the sport of orienteering.

Training Objectives

The training objectives of this course are to train candidates to be competent in teaching the basic skills of orienteering in a progressive, safe, and enjoyable manner.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course students should be able to deliver progressive orienteering lessons up to and including orienteering skills level 3.

Prerequisites

1. Candidates must be at least 18 years old at the time of being assessed for their award.
2. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to perform the skills and techniques of orienteering skills level 3, as required to navigate a minimum of three orange or red courses.
3. Have a valid safeguarding 1 certificate.

Logbook and Assessment

Following the completion of the orienteering instructor 2-day training course trainee instructors will need to record their orienteering teaching experience and complete a personal action plan for their route to assessment.

Candidates should apply for assessment within two years of attending the course.
