Notes

This is the first of  a series of 3 summer evening events run by GEN in Marlay Park, Knocklyon estate and Cabinteely park

The entrance to the park is on College Road. The Eircode D16 NH02 is for the café adjacent to the large carpark just inside the park. (Unfortunately the café is getting refurbished presently and will not be open for business.) There are 3 different entrances to the park. So please take the time to make sure you arrive at the correct entrance. Otherwise you have a long walk through the park to get to our event.
Registration, Start, and Finish are adjacent to the carpark, at the southeast end.
The scale of the map is 1:7500 and it has been newly updated. Our thanks to Ajax who have graciously passed on all their maps to Orienteering Ireland for the use of all clubs for future events/training.
Courses:
Long: 6.5-7.0 km
Middle: 4.0-4.5 km
Short ‘n Easy: 2.0-2.5 km

The park is basically flat with just a gentle incline southwards towards the Dublin foothills. This is a very popular park with a large path network and many open fields for varous sports and activities. So take a little care to avoid walkers and young kiddies/buggies along the wooded paths as you sprint around your course. The park is looking resplendent at the moment, as the parkkeepers have been working diligently to get the park looking at it’s best for the Longitude Festival which takes place here in July. There are 3 lakes in the park, with shallow streams running into/from them. Care should be taken, by competitors, near the water. There are ample bridges to cross. There has been a vibrant
growth of vegetation after the glorious sunshine and more recent damper weather but all paths are still visible and thanks to the park staff, nettles/brambles have been kept neatly in check. Dare I say it, you may get away with shorts but we will not be entertaining any complaints afterwards if you do…
Starts: 6.00-7.30 pm.
Toilets: There are public toilets in the Depot yard for public use.

Difficulty rating 3/10 Paths/parkland with some off-path (forest/deep grass)
