Summary Killiney hill is a beautiful combination of park and mature forest with views over the sea and Dublin. The terrain is steep in places and there are quite a few steps on some of the paths.
Notes

There will be 3 courses on offer

  1. Adventure - 1.3 Km - This is aimed at people new to orienteering and families with young children. The course will be mostly along paved paths in the park and major clear paths in the trees. For parents with buggies there will be some steps along the way to consider and some of the course will be off the paved paths.
  2. Medium - 1.9 Km - This is aimed at people who have had some orienteering experience or have successfully completed a few adventure or short courses and wish to try the next level up.
  3. Long - 3.3Km - This is a difficult, advanced course aimed at experienced orienteers only. There is one short steep climb on the course.

Having reviewed the results from last 2 events here we have decided to make the courses slightly shorter due to the extremely complex terrain on the hill and the extra climbing compared to other parks.

All tracks on the map are mostly clear of bramble and gorse so it is possible to do the courses in shorts but we would recommend full leg cover for the medium and long courses.

Killiney hill is very popular and the car park can be very busy on Sundays so we would ask people to consider car pooling or use public transport and make a full day out of it, do a course on the hill and then a Sunday treat in a Dalkey cafe afterwards.

In the event that the car park is full it is feasible to park on some of the wider estate roads opposite the main entrance to the park but please ensure that no drive ways are blocked and that residents are not affected in any way.

Difficulty rating 3/10 Paths/parkland with some off-path (forest/deep grass)
