Massys Estate

Parking will be in the Hellfire Club car park. The gate will shut automatically at 9pm (time to be confirmed) so please exit the car park before then as Setanta will not be able to reopen the gates.  The event start is just inside the forest gate to Massey’s Estate, please take care crossing the main road.  The event will not be signposted except for the control flag at the entrance to Hellfire car park. There will not be public toilets available. Refreshments will be offered at download. 

Courses start between 6-7pm and close at 8:30pm sharp.  Courses are not suitable for beginners/young juniors.

Approx course details:

Short: 2.3km, 85m climb, 12 controls

Long: 3.9km, 155m climb, 21 controls

Maps will be printed on waterproof paper. Map scale is 1:5,000.

Contactless punching will be enabled.

Pricing:

Entry on the night. €10. SportIdent card hire is €2 for those who need one.

Terrain and Safety:

The area is mature runnable deciduous wood. There may be unmapped fallen trees in the woods. All tracks were passable at time of print! Cruagh Brook runs along the valley with steep banks in some areas and overgrown laurel bushes. The ruins of the old Massey’s walled gardens are on the other side of the river, with entrances marked on the maps, stone steps and a section of an old basement including trenches almost a meter drop from ground level are all marked.

Be careful crossing the main road before and after the event. Courses will close at 8.30pm sharp so please return and download by this time even if you don't finish your course.
