Summary

Iconic headland in Bray - mixture of forest and open mountain with trails throughout.

Notes Entry online only until Friday 11th at 9pm

Registration, Start and Finish are at the 'Cliff Walk Car Park' off Raheen Park (GPS: 53.195116, -6.088876 - see map on orienteering.ie). Please note this is a public car park and we do not have exclusive use of same, so parking arrangements are as follows:
  • early cars and cars with children (space permitting); park in the Cliff Walk Car Park beside Registration, Start & Finish
  • late cars and single occupancy cars; park as directed by the marshall at the rear entrance to 'Presentation Catholic College Bray' on Newcourt Road (GPS: 53.191399, -6.098599). Continue on foot to Cliff Walk Car Park for Registration, Start & Finish.
  • Paid parking is also available on Bray Promenade, eg outside Star Leisure & Casino (GPS: 53.197423, -6.094026), and the Cliff Walk Car Park is accessible by a few minutes' walk along the Strand Road.
  • Please do not park in a way that inconveniences residents of Raheen Park or Newcourt Road

There are 3 courses on offer:
  • Long (6.6km, ca 350m climb, technically equivalent to Blue, experienced navigators only)
  • Medium (3.3km, 300m climb, technically equivalent to Green, experience recommended)
  • Short (2km, 70m climb, easy navigation, ideal for beginners & juniors)
This is the first time orienteering on Bray Head (many thanks to local landowners). The terrain is mixed open mountain and forest, with plenty of trails throughout. Bray Head is steep so the Long and Medium courses have significant climb. The Long course is physically rough in parts.
The Short course doesn't however climb Bray Head so has significantly less climb and is nearly all on trails.
