Events this coming weekend

There are 4 events this weekend.

Please note that the upcoming Meath Local Sports Partnership/Fingal Orienteers events at Blackwater Park, Navan next Saturday, Feb. 4th and the follow up events there on March 4th, April 1st and May 13th, are not suitable for regular orienteers.

They are part of a taster series, that will involve other sports. There will only be a easy Yellow level course on offer on the day. Fingal Orienteers intend to use these events as a lead in to our regular Meath Summer Series events at Dalgan Park and Dunshaughlin in June and the Tuesday evening events in July and August.  They are intended to try to promote the sport in Co. Meath.

The next round of the Dublin by Night series will take place next Sat evening, Feb. 4, in Rockbrook Park School.  The map of Rockbrook was drawn to Sprint standard by Lawrence Quinn and updated recently by Aonghus O’Cleirigh.  Scale = 1:4000

The event will follow sprint standard rules, e.g. no crossing thick black lines (even if you can physically cross the feature) or reaching through fences to punch controls etc.
There will be two courses
Long = 3km  with 29 controls
Short = 1.5km with 15 controls

For insurance reasons night events are only open to age classes M/W16 and above.

On Sunday, Dublin University Orienteers are hosting an Urban Sprint with courses suitable for everyone.  If you fancy trying an urban Sprint in a historic campus this is the event for you. Don’t let the title put you off, it’s also a challenging map reading exercise and definitely worth a try, even if you are a beginner!

Start/finish:     The Pavilion (see link)

https://www.tcd.ie/Maps/map.php?b=83

Parking and access:

There will be NO parking available on campus, but most on-street parking will be free on Sunday. Use of public transport is advised. Access campus from LINCOLN GATE (https://www.tcd.ie/Maps/map.php?b=86) so as to avoid walking through the competition area. Assembly will be at the Pavilion bar beside the cricket pitch. Changing rooms will be available.
