European Champs: Relay at Lugnet

The last event of the European Championships 2012 concluded at Lugnet arena today. Ireland had both a men’s and women’s team. The men were first to start, and Nick came back in 29th position on an extremely fast first leg. Hugh followed up on second leg but dropped some places to 34th, and Conor had a stable senior debut and held that position to the end. Switzerland took the men’s title (with their second team) in a sprint finish from Sweden (also their second team) and Russia took victory in the women’s.

In the women’s race, Niamh came back in 24th after a good run, but could not stay  with the pace of the pack in front. Roz was ‘scrappy but happy’ and brought the team to 23rd, and Ciara held that position to the end.

Final results and all the week’s GPS tracking is available on the EOC website: www.eoc2012.se

The team would like to thank Thomas for being a great team leader all week :) The Irish team now looks forward to the WOC selection races in Scotland in 2 weeks and then to WOC itself in July.
