LiDAR is an acronym of “Light Detection And Ranging”, a technology with considerable potential for mapping in orienteering. North West Orienteering Club recently commissioned a drone LiDAR survey of Moydamlaght Forest, for a new map which was used at the NI Colour Series on 31 August.

Steven Linton, NWOC, has kindly agreed to lead a workshop outlining the process that was taken to commission the LiDAR and how the data was used, touching on the benefits and the pitfalls. This will be mostly of relevance to those involved in mapping, but anyone with an general interest in the mapping process is welcome to join. The workshop will take place on Zoom on Tuesday 12 November at 8pm. To register please email secretary @ niorienteering.org.uk
