I would agree with Gavan's points: there are many advantages for event organisers in having pre-entry and I would support the idea of a discount for pre-entered competitors. The Orienteering Ireland pre-entry system works well and Gavan put a lot of effort into it.

Maybe a couple of extra fields like one's age class and club would be useful especially if used for Championship events or to include an additional discount for members of O-clubs, to encourage newcomers to join a club.

Currently Orienteering Ireland absorbs the transaction fees which might not continue in the long term.

Help is the scarciest commodity at events (especially when a club holds an event every week). We find that preentry has helped to cut down work at registration alot so there is no going back now.

A big improvement that I would like is as follows - Typing all names, emails, contact numbers etc for a family every week must be quite tedious. It is slow on a PC and many people use their mobiles! Perhaps, the entry system can be tied in with the SI database to prepopulate the fields based on SI card ID? Furthermore, most of our participants at the more popular locations are family groups who do not have SI cards but participate several times per year. Maybe we could create virtual SI card IDs to get these into the database?

I very much would like this implemented. I think it should be a priority. I was involved with the entries for an event and I reckon about 10% had inputted their SI number incorrectly. This would reduce this and streamline the entry process.
