Announcing (still under development) Irish Champs Archives at http://irishchamps.cnocmaps.com/

orienteering.ie maintains a list of past Irish champions on the website as a PDF: https://www.orienteering.ie/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Roll-of-Honour-Irish-Champions.pdf

I wanted more details though, so I've been working on a website to keep track of the results of M & W 21 results for all Irish Championships. It can now be visited at http://irishchamps.cnocmaps.com/

This is still a bit of a work in progress, but I wanted to share this before this years IOC takes places. The older data in particular needs to be tidied up and I know I'm missing some names and clubs. A list of issues is maintained at https://github.com/bluefeet32/IrishOrienteeringArchives/issues/. If you have ideas or things you'd like to see included I'm open to suggestions and feedback.

Long term the goal is that this can be integrated into orienteering.ie at some stage, but for now while it's being developed I'll keep it at the above URL until the data is more static.

Big thanks go to:
  - Conor Short who helped with the website design and creation.
  - Marcus Pinker as the inspiration and who maintained a spreadsheet that much of the data is sourced from.
  - Eoin Rothery who provided the pre 1985 data, that I'm still working through adding.

Good effort Ruari!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember there was a page on Orienteering.ie that listed the top 3 finishers in all IOC's with times.  However I can't find that one now....  Any ideas?

Eoin

@eoin-rothery here is a link to this via waybackmachine. Unfortunately, it seemed to get dropped when the website was refreshed.

Removing this was apparently a conscious decision as part of the website redesign to be in line with other Irish sport organisations, which in the end was some of the inspiration as to why I started to do this.

That link is fabulously useful, and in particular https://web.archive.org/web/20171122081946/http://www.orienteering.ie/high-performance/past-irish-champions/past-irish-champions-relays, as I was missing lots of the relay results before now. Thanks!

That's great Ruairi! The only suggestions I'd have is to make the link to RouteGadget more obvious, and possibly save the JPG of the map in case anything happens to the live RG. Either way, it's a great resource to have. Well done!

I'm trying to figure out a more durable way of storing the maps long term than routegadget. I don't trust that it will stay around forever. Even if they're all in a Google Drive I'd have some more confidence.

Finding some of the older maps will be tricky though, so working through that.
