A "World Orienteering Day" come-and-try-it event to introduce orienteering to newcomers of all ages and levels of fitness. Free pre-entry and entry on the day. SportIdent timing chips will be loaned to participants.

This is an introductory event for first-timers and beginners so if you are already a competent orienteer it is not aimed at you, unless you simply want to go for a run with a map. If you are already an experienced orienteer and we have a lot of newcomers, you will probably be asked to help, so be warned!

At the moment there are three courses: about 2 km, about 4 km and a "Scatter" course where you get the controls in the order of your choice. We also hope to have a novelty "Golf" course on the day. There is also a farmers' market on Sundays and there are toilets and an adventure playground. Start times from 11 am to 1 pm.

We will be operating from the overflow car park so keep going to the end of the road as you come in from the Lucan/Laraghcon entrance.

Thanks to Fingal County Council and Kildare County Council for permissions.

Location map for parking here.

By bus: C3, C4 or 52 to Lucan and walk; train - Sligo/Longford/Maynooth line to Leixlip Confey and walk.

Online entries are open until Thursday night here.

The results and Routegadget are now online here.

Thanks to everyone who came for the run on a nice sunny day, and thanks to the 3ROC volunteers who helped and to Fingal and Kildare County Councils for permission to hold the event.

Just looking at the uploaded results now, I see that something has happened the Score and Scatter courses so that everyone is listed as DNF for some reason. I won't have access to the results computer for a few days but I'll see if I can fix it then. Routagedget certainly doesn't like score or scatter events as it expects the controls to be visited in numerical order. Maybe it's an issue with an event having both normal and score/scatter courses?

Any suggestions?
