Entries are open online HERE for the 3ROC Leinster League event on Sunday 15th September at the Pine Forest, Rockbrook, Co. Dublin. Early-bird online entries close on Thursday evening but there will be some entry on the day available.

Parking will be in the Tibradden car park and on some forest roads at the end of the car park, but it is a busy recreation area and parking is limited so if you can , try car-sharing. There is effectively no public transport to the forest.

See location map here. The shorter courses will only use Tibradden Wood, the longer courses will also use Cruagh Wood. Be careful crossing the road between the two forests.

Thanks to Zipit for permission to use their toilets and to Coillte for permitting the event.

There will be a free raffle for everyone who has entered online for a €50 ZIPIT voucher to use the high-wire course in the forest. See here.

Course lengths will be posted here in the coming days but all the usual Leinster League courses will be available, from the easiest (Yellow) through Orange, Red, Light Green (moderate), Green, Blue and Brown (the most difficult - for experienced orienteers). There may also be a Short Green course (technically difficult, but shorter than Green) which is not part of the League series.

Start times 11 am to 1 pm.

Maps will be pre-marked and printed on waterproof Rite in the Rain paper. Control descriptions will be on the maps and loose descriptions will be available. There will be a single start but two finishes, so make sure you go to the right finish: one for the shorter courses in Tibradden and one for the longer courses in Cruagh wood. Controls will be SIAC enabled (contactless punching if you have a SIAC card).

Some updates to the event information:

All online entries will go in a raffle for a €50 ZipIt voucher to try out the high-wire adventure in the treetops at Tibradden.

Online entries for the event close on Thursday evening but entries are very slow coming in.

The map has just been completely updated by Pat Healy for the event, the first league event at the Pine Forest since 2019.

Course Controls Length Climb (as % of length)
Yellow 11 1.9 km 75 m  (3.9%)
Orange 13 3.1 km 120 m (3.9%)
Red 14 5.7 km 280 m (4.9%)
Light Green 12 4.5 km 210 m (4.7%)
Green 15 5.3 km 220 m (4.2%)
Blue 18 6.8 km 320 m (4.7%)
Brown 20 8.2 km 450 m (5.5%)

There will NOT be a Short Green course.

Follow the car park and the overflow car park through the forest barrier for parking, or if this is full, park as directed. There is a one-way system in the car park. Please drive slowly, particularly in the area used by the ZipIt course.

Here is the link for online entries: https://www.orienteering.ie/fixtures/pine-forest-11/

There will be some entry on the day while map stocks last, but without the reduced entry fee that online entries benefit from.

Another reminder: If you have your own SI card, please put in the details in the SI archive here. If you have done this before, please check that the details are correct (name, club, age class, preferred course). This really helps the organisers to get your details into the results system

We hope to see you all on Sunday!

Hi Everyone,

Just to advise that for travelling to the 3ROC Leinster League event in Pine Forest this Sunday 15th, the Tibradden Road L4027 will be closed due to works at Mutton Lane Bridge. The recommended diversion is to take the Whitechurch Road L4020 – Taylors Lane R113 – Edmondstown Road R116.

Also, the Brown course has been slightly shorted to 7.6k with 395m. A very small number of people were entered under Black or Short Green which are not running and so will move across to Brown and Light Green respectively. If this doesn't suit, please advise at Registration.

Entries close tonight so don't delay, and don't forget your travel mug for refreshments after

Best regards,

Eoin Dunne (Planner)

@eoin-dunne every route that Google gives me goes via Kilcullen.  Even one where I put Kilakee viewing point as a intermediate location. Is the road past Cruagh Wood also closed?

Hi Andrew,

Sorry for delayed response. Very strange, nothing on road closures in that area and I was able to drive up to Cruagh Wood car park this afternoon without difficulty.

Best regards,

Eoin

Thanks to everyone who participated in the recent 3ROC Leinster League event in Pine Forest. Results are available here

The winner of the €50 ZipIt voucher is Philip Brennan of Setenta so well done Philip, we’ll get that voucher over to you asap.

Many thanks also to all the people who helped out, without which, our sport wouldn’t exist.

Best regards,

Eoin Dunne (Planner)

Hey Eoin & 3ROC,

That was really nice last Sunday. Plenty of nice runnable forest and the sun came out as I was finishing!

Thanks,
