Here is some more information about the Phoenix Park night event on 22nd January: Dublin by Night (DBN) event #2.

Pre-entry only, via the IOA Fixtures page here. Two courses,  7 km and 4 km. Under-16's allowed if accompanied by an adult. (Hopefully the adult will be able to keep up). Entries are open now and they will close just before midnight on Thursday 20th January. Please enter early if you can so we will know how many maps to print.

Current Covid regulations will apply. For this reason the traditional tea and biscuits etc inside won't feature this year. If you finish early enough you can pop in to the Hole in the Wall for refreshment. Pubs close at 8 pm.

The start and finish will be inside the Phoenix Park at the Hole in the Wall pub on Blackhorse Avenue. You can enter and leave the Park via the Cabra gate or the Ashtown gate or you can use the pedestrian gate beside the pub.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Dublin by Night event in the Phoenix Park. It wasn't the most interesting part of the area but the section north of the main road is a part of the Park that hasn't been used for a good many years. The results and Routegadget are both up on the Orienteering Ireland results page here. Please put in your routes so the other competitors can follow the action.

There was some lost property left behind at Download: a blue aluminium drinks bottle and a pair of black-framed Franzen orienteering glasses. If these are yours, e-mail 3roc@orienteering.ie to arrange collection. We'll have them at next Saturday's night event at St Patrick's College, Drumcondra, on January 29th.

On a historical note, when we started running night events in the Phoenix Park maybe 30 years ago, we always chose a night with a full moon since we were all running with bicycle lamps and feeble hand torches. Nowadays lighting technology has moved on a lot so we don't need to make allowances like that any more.

Entries for next Saturday's night-O are open until just before midnight on Thursday on the Orienteering Ireland fixtures page here. There will be two courses of about 3.0 and 1.5 km by straight lines, with lots of controls.

Hi John (& Nora/Lindie & other 3ROCkers),

%0D%0A

Many thanks for a very enjoyable run around the park on Saturday evening. Beautiful evening for it topped off with a celebratory freedom pint in the Hole in the Wall pub!

The entire park herd of deer blocked my way out of control 13 - I wasn't going to run through them so took a minute or two to take a video which you can check out on https://www.facebook.com/genorienteering (no login needed).
