Cork O invite you to join us on Sunday 3rd March for orienteering at Ballydrehid, located at the eastern tip of the Galtees, adjacent to Cahir. The map covers an extensive area of nice forest and open ground. The area has not been used for over 20 years and has been completely remapped in the last few months, The map is at a scale 1:10,000 with 5m contours from Lidar, thanks to the IOA. The terrain is generally fast with the bracken low and courses will make for interesting route choice decisions. It will be the first event in the southwest league and will feature an inter club challenge between CorkO and Kerry along with an Intervarsity challenge.

The assembly/registration is located at ‘Scarragh Woods’ on Google maps. The area is reached through Cahir along the M7 motorway (50 mins from Dunkettle and 90 min from the Red Cow roundabouts). The forest is accessible from Cahir Town via the Mountain Road (turn at Aldi) which underpasses the motorway. The area is popular with local walkers and bikers. Please follow parking instructions on the day to make room for all.

Start times from 10.45am to 12.45pm.

Please enter in advance to ensure sufficient maps are available.

For those who would like to see an old map of Ballydrehid, this one was from a Brown Course Munster League event in 1988, ~ 8Km with 260m climb.

Of course, in those days you had to copy down the map from a master-map - no colour photocopying or OCAD back then !

Looking forward to running & navigating on this area again this Sunday.
