The 4th Dublin by Night event will be on Saturday 28th January at the DCU St Patrick's Campus in Drumcondra, Dublin 9, staged by 3ROC.
Online entry is open until Thursday 26th here. There are more event details there also. There will be limited entry on the day up to 6.30 pm at a higher entry fee.
This will be a mass start night event, with a start at 7.00 pm for everyone, so please (a) enter online in advance if you can and (b) arrive in time. The area is well served by public transport, with Dublin Bus routes 1, 11, 13, 16, 33, 41 and 44 passing the college. There is some parking on the campus but it may be necessary to pay and display to park there.
Maps will be pre-marked on waterproof paper and there will be a map-flip where one part of the course will be on one side and the second part on the other. The courses will be gaffled or forked so that you won't all be going the same way at the same time. The map scale wil be 1:2500 ( 1 cm = 25 metres).
The Long course will be about 3 km with about 26 controls and the Short about 2 km with about 20 controls - the details are still being finalised.
Contactless punching will be enabled so use your SIAC card if you have one.
The terrain is typical university campus, with buildings, paths and grass. There will be a lot of controls in a small area so it is important to check your control codes before punching a control. Control descriptions will be on the map only, in IOF symbols. The area is reasonably well lit but a torch or headlamp will be needed to read the map at least.
Two "man made" symbols are used in the descriptions: a black O is a lamp post or CCTV support, and a high tower symbol like a capital T is a floodlight mast.
Hot drinks etc will be served afterwards and there are plenty of pubs in the area if you'd like to meet up afterwards: Fagans or the Cat and Cage are the closest.
