I did feel that some of the other course lengths seemed short as well but didn\'t want to bepresumptuous and speak for people on other courses.

I have a few other points I\'d like to make but don\'t have time right now. In a nutshell though, it worries me that any planner/controller might allow these ratios to dominate their thinking when designing courses.

I\'m not that current at the moment but those ratios are there for a good reason. As well as ensuring consistency across events, it helps the planner/controller design courses for age categories they\'re not familiar with (for example, avoiding excessive climb). Obviously they\'re very prescriptive so it\'s good to see them reviewed occasionally.

A separate issue is the technicality of an area. A repeat of last year\'s IOCs could make one wish for shorter courses than usual!
