Our next CNOC event (and first one post-Covid restrictions) takes place at Oughaval Woods, outside Stradbally, Co. Laois, this coming Sunday 14th November. Start times available from 11am to 1am.

Whether you are a complete novice, a family, or a seasoned veteran, there is a course to suit. If you are new to orienteering, drop us an email beforehand, or ask us on the day (at the event) for advice. I'd suggest beginner children or families start on the Yellow course, and beginner adults could try the Red course - both are technically easy, the only difference being the length/climb involved.

Specifically, the course details are as follows:

Course         Controls  Length  Climb
Yellow          10            2.1 km    70 m
Orange          9             2.0 km    70 m
Red              11            5.0 km    145 m
Light Green   10           2.9 km    100 m
Short Green  10            2.6 km    80 m
Green           14            5.1 km    160 m
Blue             18            6.0 km    220 m
Brown          18            7.5 km    330 m

Start and finish are adjacent to the car park. There may be some small map corrections available to view at the start for longer courses (the maps were printed for the original event in March 2020, which never happened). In general, the forest is in good condition.

Entries are available up to Friday night @ midnight via the online system at https://www.orienteering.ie/fixtures/oughaval-3/ There won't be any entries available on the day - registration tent will only be for SI rental pickup, and result downloads.

If you need to hire an SI card, you can indicate this on the entry form - these will be preallocated, and can be collected at registration, to be returned at the finish. Lost cards cost €40 to replace!

If you are planning on bringing a group, it would be imperative to contact us ahead of time, so we can ensure we print enough maps, etc.

Hi Dave,

The link you provided for entries goes to a Blogger page!? On the event details page it's the same. The pre-entry link further down does appear to at least open an O.ie entry payment page but I'm reluctant to use it until I know that it's definitely correct for your event.

I'm aiming to have printed control descriptions available in the start boxes on Sunday - but if you'd prefer to print your own and bring them, heres a PDF you can use:

EDIT: possible 11th hour course changes, ignore those descriptions. There will still be printed ones at the event.

Ok, most controls are out, and good to go. The event tomorrow will be SIAC enabled, punching start and finish. We should be set up and ready to go by 10am - so if you'd like an early run, come on down - parking later might be tight!

Control descriptions will be available at the start. The ones I posted earlier in the week are outdated, so don't bother bringing them - several courses were changed since then.

Forest is looking great in it's autumn colours, looks to be good weather too! Hope to see you all there.
