Entries for the annual St Stephen's Day score event are now open online HERE. Online entries are open until 11 pm on Sunday December 21st at a reduced rate. There will also be entry on the day until all the maps are gone. Please enter in advance if you can, as it makes the results processing much easier.

This is a score event, with a time limit, so you visit as many controls as you can, in any order, in the permitted time. Note the start times: only from 10.30 to 12.00. Courses close at 1.00 pm and controls will be removed.

There will be two classes, both will have a 50 minute time limit. Maps will be printed on A4 waterproof paper, 1:7500 scale.

The Short course is 50 minutes with 21 controls, and you can visit the controls in any order.

The Long course is also 50 minutes with 21 controls but you can't mix the odd and even numbered controls unless you first visit a "transition" control. In other words you can start on the even-number controls, then visit the transition, then do the odd-numbered ones, or the other way around. In both cases there will be a points penalty if you are out longer than the allowed time, so bring a watch or a phone to tell you the time. There will also be bonus points if you are in fancy dress (not just a Santa hat and a piece of tinsel - you have to make a bit of an effort!) We expect that there will be a toilet available, thanks to Zipit.

Parking can be limited because it's also a popular area for walkers, so please car share if you can, and park nice and neatly. We'll have the usual festive hot drinks etc at the finish. We hope to see you there! Location map HERE. Eircode D16 XY79.

A reminder that online entries for this event close at 11 pm on Tuesday 23rd December. Please enter online if possible as (a) it allows us to enter more of the competitors into the results system beforehand and makes it easier to handle entries on the day and (b) it's cheaper for you.

See details, and enter online, HERE.

  1. Thanks to everyone who came along to the Christmas Score event today at Tibradden. We are experiencing some issues with the Ór results software this evening and results will be uploaded as soon as we can sort out the problem.

The basic results are now available HERE.

Sorry about the delay, but maybe someone can explain to me why every time I imported the competition files (the results and the map image) from Purple Pen into Ór, the event changed from a score event (where the controls can be visited in any order) into a cross-country event (where the controls must be visited in a specific order). The result was that all the competitors were classed as DNF.

Finally I dispensed with Routegadget altogether so what we now have is just the names ranked according to points value.

It looks like neither Ór nor Routegadget likes score events: the results in Ór have times, bonus points (50 extra for fancy dress) and penalty points (-10 points per minute or part minute late), but the published results don't have the time or the bonus points. RG can't deal with runners going in all directions as in a score event.

Can anyone explain what is happening?

John McC

Sorry to add to the difficulties John, but looking at the results I'm listed on the Short course, which is odd, because I have a printout of my entry, and it shows I entered Long. My splits print also states Short, but I didn't think to check it at the time I was given it.

Leaving aside my particular results there are people listed on Short who clearly should not be, Angus and Tivon, Brendan Delaney, and others.

@johnmccullough

Maybe I'm the only one incorrectly listed on Short then...

Long and short course is confusing, because they are both 50 minutes, so no difference. I chose to do the variant where I would not have to try separate odd and even controls, so I (and Tivon) are correctly listed in the "Short" course results.

Hi John and 3ROC crew -

The changeover control format is kind of like a virtual map exchange. It makes a small area much more challenging/interesting but looks tricky to compute...

What's left of the forest was super-pleasant to run through, the weather was clear and cool and it was really nice to catch up with new and old(er) faces over some warm punch (thanks Eoin!).

All in all great fun, thanks very much!
