Hello Orienteering Technical Brain Trust, So, CNOC were discussing upgrading our current Set of SI boxes at the event yesterday to enable SI-Air, and I WAs wondering if there are any major gotchas I should be aware of? We have ~50 functioning stations, all BSF8 models. I dont know what firmware they are currently on, but I\'m assuming its at least 12 months out of date, probably more. Here are the final details for the Ajax CATI event next Tuesday evening (June 26th.) in Marlay Park, Rathfarnham. If you are bringing a group (scouts, cubs, adventure club etc.), please let us know so that we can ensure adequate maps are available (temp2011 at me dot com). Travel and Parking: The event is not signposted but the Park is easy to find. The grid reference for the event is: O 15167 25602 and the following Google Map link shows the location: Google Maps Link to Event Location Competitors should enter the Park by the southern gate on College Road. The car Park at the southern end of the Park has been upgraded and the car Park further in is no longer accessible. Registration as well as the start and finish will all be in, or close to, the southern car Park. Please do not Park anywhere except in a car Park. Start times: From 18:30 - 19:30. Courses will close at 21:00 sharp and control removal will begin at this time. Courses: There will be a Long, Medium and a short course with approximate straight-line lengths of 6, 4 and 2 km. The climb on all courses is negligible. The long and medium courses may necessitate traversing some areas with nettles or rough ground. It may be possible to complete the Short course with a buggy but we do not recommend it. The Medium and Long are not suitable for buggies. The distances given are straight line and actual distance travelled may be significantly longer. Mapping Notes: There is no legend on the map but copies of the legend will be available at registration for those that need them. The map is A4 and has been partially revised this month. The map scale is 1:5000 and the map is aligned to magnetic north. The map has been drawn using ISSOM 2007. Compactor bins and Park seats have been mapped using the man-made X symbol. There are a number of wooden trestle tables around the Park. These are temporary, moveable (although bulky), objects and have not been mapped. Signage, light poles, lifebuoys and other posts and poles have not been mapped. Goalposts are not shown on the map. The green X symbol indicates a root-stock. This can be either the root of a fallen or felled tree or the stump of a tree still embedded in the ground. In a few cases these stumps are 4-5 metres high. There are concerts scheduled in the Park next month and while Set-up operations are not due to start until after our event there may be piles of equipment and matériel in various locations. We cannot predict when or even if these will be present but they should not impede progress on the course. Control Descriptions: These will be available loose at registration and will also be on the map. The short course will have English descriptions on the map. All loose descriptions will be in IOF symbolic format. Timing: SportIdent timing will be used. SI cards will be available to rent at registration at a cost of €2 per card (Note that lost cards will incur a €30 replacement cost). Entry Fees:Children/Students/OAP: €5Adults: €8Families: €20 We hope to provide light refreshments of tea and coffee afterwards. Please take all litter home with you when you leave.

The Curragh event on February 7 is open for entries, but when you try to enter it just hangs as there is no price Set.

Is the date on the fixtures for the Set LL event next year in Glenreemore correct? I only ask because it's scheduled for Easter Sunday. It's likely that a good few people who would be at that event will be away at the JK. Paul

Thanks Marcus for the enjoyable courses. Most legs asked questions. It seems my very long, safe roundabout route from 2-3 WAs not a bad option. Short course WAs great in that it started Simple, but latter half asked same questions as we had on long course. And the attention to detail in breaking circles and lines is much appreciated. Don\'t know if we\'ll get to Phoenix Park as its a long journey at that time of day for us.

Please note that registration will be at the MIDDLE car Park by the allotments, and the event will not be signposted from Iniscarra Road Roundabout / Iniscarra Bridge as currently stated on orienteering.ie/fixtures. Join us next Wednesday 27th December at Ballincollig Regional Park for some festive orienteering.  We\'ll be using the usual \"score\" format that we use each Christmas - where competitors will have to punch as many controls as possible within the time limit. There will be two courses available - including a Simple \"score\" course for beginners or less experienced orienteers. For the more experienced we have a \"Snooker Score\" format, where competitors will have to score points in a specified order, as explained  Entry EUR 5 each (EUR 3 for juniors) and all proceeds will go to Straight Ahead, a charity that provides surgery, support and medical equipment for children with orthopaedic  Registration will be at the MIDDLE car Park by the allotments. Start times 11:00am - 12:00pm for the Simple course and there will be a GROUP START for the Snooker Score at 12:00pm sharp. Please arrive in good time to register for the Snooker Score! Courses close 12:45pm. Prizes for the course winners and spot prizes on the day! Bring a stopwatch! Hope to see you there, Rob Cork Orienteers (with thanks to Cork County Council for the use of the Park)   ******* Instructions: For the Snooker Score course, there will be 16 controls in the Park: ten \"red\" controls (worth 1 point each), and six colour controls (yellow = 2; green = 3; brown = 4; blue = 5; pink = 6; black = 7). Competitors will need to punch a \"red\" control, then punch a colour, then punch a different \"red\" control, followed by a colour; etc., until they have punched all 10 red controls, and 10 colours of their choice. They should then complete the course by visiting the six colours yellow-green-brown-blue-pink-black in order. Just like a game of snooker! The maximum number of points available is 107 (i.e. if someone punched the \"black\" control after every red control) - but this will of course involve running a little further and quite a bit faster 🙂 The overall winner will be the person who completes the course with the most points, in the fastest time, and within the time limit.
