Safeguarding for Clubs
To achieve a good level of safeguarding awareness, our clubs should;
1. Encourage all committee members to complete safeguarding level 1 training (Code of Ethics Basic Awareness/Child Protection Workshop – NI Sport NI Safeguarding Children & Young People Workshop).
2. Appoint a Club Children’s Officer who should complete Safeguarding Level 2 training (Club Children’s Officer Workshop – NI Sport NI Safeguarding Children & Young People Workshop).
3. Appoint a Designated Liaison Person (who may also be the Club Children’s Officer) who should complete Safeguarding Level 3 training (Designated Liaison Person Workshop – NI Sport NI Designated Children’s Officer Workshop).
Safeguarding Workshops of all levels are conducted by your Local Sports Partnership.
Clubs are encouraged to carry out a safeguarding self assessment. Sport Ireland have a video on how to complete this here.
Certain roles in Orienteering Ireland and club level require Garda vetting to be completed to meet our legal obligations. Vetting is valid for three years and some of these roles also require the person to hold a valid safeguarding certificate (which is also valid for three years). All applications for vetting must be sent by post and accompanied by a certified copy of the applicants ID (as outlined in the ID Checklist) and which can only be certified by one of the following persons:
National Children’s Officer
Serving Executive Committee Member
Junior Squad Manager
