Orienteering Ireland presents three annual awards. These awards are of equal status and reflect our community’s recognition of an individual’s contribution to the sport.
This is awarded annually in recognition of outstanding service or performance in our sport. It recognises exceptional efforts in a single year or a long term contribution that makes a lasting impact on our sport.
We are honoured to posthumously present the Spirit of Orienteering Award to Ted Lucey of Bishopstown Orienteering Club, in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to the sport. Ted was a passionate and fiercely committed orienteer whose presence was deeply felt across the Irish orienteering community.
Ted brought energy, conviction, and an unshakable love for the sport to every event. Though he is no longer with us, his impact endures – and the sport of orienteering is stronger for his part in it.
This awarded for the development of orienteering with awardees being nominated by our members. Activities such as creating a new map, a new technology, bringing our sport to a new part of the country, revitalising a neglected area of our sport, staging a major event etc are typical of the work done by our previous award winners.
We are proud to recognise Raymond Finlay of Fermanagh Orienteers for his outstanding dedication and tireless service to the sport of orienteering. Over the years, Raymond has been a driving force in promoting and developing orienteering across the region, inspiring newcomers and seasoned athletes alike. His unwavering commitment, behind-the-scenes work, and leadership have left a lasting legacy not only within Fermanagh but across the wider orienteering community.
Introduced in 2012, this is awarded to members of our National Squads who perform to a high level at an international event.
The most recent recipients of our Performance Excellence awards are Aoife McCavana & Josh O’Sullivan-Hourihan for their performances at EOC 2023
Introduced in 2025, these awards recognise the achievement of being the best placed Irish athlete at JWOC & EYOC annually.
This coin is awarded to volunteers who have served with distinction on OI committees or in supporting roles to recognise their contributions to our sport where another OI award is not suitable.
