Upcoming Events & Younger Junior Training

These are the events for the period ending Wednesday 23 November 2016.

There is training for younger juniors at Hellfire next Sunday, see note from John Riordan:

We have had a very positive response to our training proposal for Sunday morning and will be sending final details tomorrow to those who have registered their interest. Accordingly, if there are any “last minute” takers (all young juniors are welcome, this is about giving them a chance to learn and have some fun) please send a quick note to John on john.riordan@boi.com

Our plan is to meet at 0945 in the Hellfire car park and to walk across the road to Massy’s Estate then for 1000. We will have three games planned … where we are / Line Orienteering / ‘Vampire’ Orienteering … with learning and a bit of fun in mind!

Games will be short and will focus on the fun and social aspects of the sport as well as dealing with basic map-reading skills such as map setting and self-locating.  Games will finish at 1120 and the participants can be collected from the finish point in Massy’s. All are welcome and parents may of course remain in close proximity. No cost.

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday at 0945

Terry, Eoin and John

The events listed below are suitable for beginners, ask at registration and someone will assist you.

The event in Doneraile Forest Park is part of the Cork Schools Orienteering Association’s League events, for further information on that see here

Fun-Training Session for Younger Juniors

20 November 2016

junior_pic

In the interests of building greater confidence in our younger juniors (anyone aged in the 8-13 range) you are invited to bring your child(ren) along in advance of the event at Hellfire Wood on Sunday 20 November.

No cost.

Participants can then try their skills by entering Setanta’s event across the road in Hellfire straight after, if they wish.

You might register your advance interest in the Training directly with John on john.riordan@boi.com

Thanks

Terry Lawless, Eoin Browne and John Riordan

Once again the Ajax Autumn Leinster League event returns to the excellent, technical, Carraig Na Seabhac, in central Wicklow. The map has been partially updated and Aonghus O’Cleirigh has planned some excellent, challenging courses, with oversight by controller Donal Wickham.
The usual range of courses are being provided but please be aware that the Yellow and Orange courses are not suitable for buggy’s and are likely to be wet underfoot. All the usual goodies, SI, water-resistant maps and refreshments afterwards, with usual entry fees and start window. Cagoules may be compulsory if the weather warrants it, so bring one just in case. Whistles recommended!
It’s up to 1km. walk to the start from parking and this is along a public road so allow yourself plenty of time and please beware of traffic.
Full details are available at here
Special thanks to Coillte and Wicklow Mountain National Park for granting permission to hold the event.
