O’Boyle 3rd at Junior Home International

Caoimhe O'Boyle

Team Captain, Caoimhe O’Boyle from Co Kildare proved the star of the young Irish team at the orienteering’s annual Junior Home International hosted by North West Orienteering Club at Magilligan, Co Derry.

O’Boyle finished third in the W18 age group. It was the first podium finish for an Irish orienteer in four years.

Overall, the Irish team finished third for a second year. In a tight competition for the title, Scotland beat England by just five points. The Irish also finished third in Sunday’s relays.

The Junior Home Internationals 2015 have come to a conclusion.
After a great, well organised weekend, Scotland came out victorious, ahead of England, while Ireland claimed 3rd spot and the Judith Wingham trophy ahead of Wales.

Total results:
Scotland 129, England 124, Ireland 59 and Wales 48.

Ireland ahead of Wales at the Junior Home International.

The rivalry between Ireland and Wales continues with Ireland at 39 points and Wales at 28 points.  It’s all to play for at the relays tomorrow.  Caoimhe O’Boyle of Curragh Naas Orienteering Club secured third position on the podium in the W18 category for the first time in 4 years.

Irish Junior Squad in action this weekend at the Junior Home International

The following team will represent Ireland at JHI on 24/25 October in Northern Ireland. The fundraising calendar for Irish Junior squad is on sale now. It is A4 size and will be available at the NI champs/ Middle distance Irish Champs this weekend and at events in the months coming up to Christmas, while stocks last. If you are abroad and would like a copy kept for you or/sent to you please email jk(dot)mccavana(at)gmail(dot)com. It is possible to make a SEPA payment for the calendar.

Connaught Championships, 15 Nov 2015, Co. Roscommon

Sligo Orienteering Club are running the Connaught Championships this year in Oakport, Co. Roscommon. SOC are the newest orienteering club in the country and have being working hard to build orienteering in the Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon areas. Note that the early entry fees closing date is 30th October, 11 days.
