WOC 2015 – Middle Distance
Ref. WOC 2015. Middle Distance Selection
The selection policy as published indicated that the selection panel would identify another middle distance event for the selection process. The panel have decided in the absence of an appropriate event the following:
- The original selection race in Scotland June 2015. 1 automatic selection place for first Irish (male) competitor.
- The second Middle Distance team position (male) will be based on results at middle distance JK 2015 and Scotland selection race.
The panel apologises for the lateness of this decision but felt it was only fair to all the athletes concerned that this decision was taken in advance of JK 2015, before the selection process commenced.

Irish Schools Secondary Schools Reminder
Planning underway for the Irish Secondary schools championships but schools are on holiday. Please register interest using google docs NOW
http://goo.gl/forms/SabYlNl79mThe event is only 93 km from Red Cow junction in Dublin so no excuses for Leinster schools over distance to travel….mostly motorway. Can the Leinster schools mount a challenge this year? Munster schools have dominated in recent times but Rockbrook won the 2nd and 3rd year boys section whilst Conall Whelan and Molly Brown were individual winners in 2014. Who will come to the fore this year?
Details for Primary schools for May 11th will be posted after Easter.

Junior Time Trial Results
Last weekend saw the Irish Junior Squad’s annual Time Trial in the Furry Glen, Phoenix Park.
The Time Trial is compulsory for all junior athletes hoping to be selected for international competitions with the Irish junior orienteering squad.
Conditions were mixed, not the best or worst, dry in places, but slippery on the climb up to the first control.
Despite not the best conditions, some great results were achieved, including some record-breaking times.
M18 Paul Pruzina of LVO broke the long-standing 4-lap junior record previously held by Seamus O’Boyle from September 2007, in a time of 22:31, 15secs clear of Seamus’ previous record.
W20 Róisín Long of AJAX / UCDO was also in record-breaking form, completing the 3-lap course in 20:41, 46 seconds faster than the previous women’s record held by Áine McCann, dating back to March 2010. Áine’s time will however remain the W18 record.
Another note-worthy time was Emer Perkins’ 2-lap time of 13:39, making her the 2nd W16 to run sub-14 for the course, leaving her 15secs shy of Áine McCann’s course record, from October 2009.
The event saw great runs all round from the squad members, and is a testament to the great work being done in the junior squad at the moment. Well done to all who took part.
