A new version of Ór is now available.  You can install it from http://www.orienteering.ie/or-home/or-downloads.  If you already have Ór installed, just run it and it should prompt you to allow it to upgrade.

If you do have a problem upgrading, uninstall & re-install.  There are instructions on how to uninstall Ór in the FAQ "How do I uninstall Ór?" at http://www.orienteering.ie/or-home/or-faq.

There are just a few fairly small changes from 4.3.3:

  • Some V5 cards were not being recorded correctly when the start box was downloaded - the SI numbers were incorrect.  This is fixed.
  • Now supports pCards, even when card reader box is in Exended protocol mode (untested)
  • Removed GPS download feature.  I don't think it was used and just added to complexity.
  • It is now possible to ignore the time a competitor punched the start box and manually enter a time. I'm not sure if this will be very useful but I have been asked for it.
  • Fixed error with course variant names when importing from OCAD.
  • Now using a different library to connect with the serial port.  The only difference you should notice is that Ór does not crash if you disconnect the download box.

Enjoy,

Martin

Thanks Martin, this solves the issue I had at Leinster 3 day last year when I had a number of extra starts when the competition had finished.

Hi Martin,

curious if you plan to make Or available on any other operating system (e.g. linux). About to upgrade the club laptop and wanted to see if we should stay on the Microsoft Windows platform.

Regards, Ian.

Hi Ian,

I've successfully used Or (albeit in simulation mode) on Linux. It uses Java so it's very portable. However I'd trouble finding Linux drivers for the SI boxes which might be more of a restriction for you!

I'm still amazed at how good a program Or is. Well done again Martin!

It should work on Linux and Mac now. At least, previous versions did. There should be no need to get drivers for Linux. Modern versions have support but in.

Though I should point out that while Ór has been used and tested a lot on Windows, it hasn't been tested much on other platforms.
