This year's Phoenix Park Summer Orienteering Series starts on Tuesday August 15 from the Papal Cross area. Other dates are Tuesday August 22 Magazine Fort and Tuesday August 29 Furry Glen. Registration each evening opens at 6pm, with starts between 6.30-7.30. There will be two courses: about 5km (medium) and about 2.5km (short). With the evenings drawing in, courses for the remaining two events will close at 8.15pm, so get there early! These events are ideal for beginners and runners of all standards looking to give the thought sport a go. Entry fee is €6 adult, €4 students/unwaged, €10 families. The locations will be signposted from Chesterfield Avenue (aka the main road of the Park). Info Lindie 086 1023306. Or see our website at 3roc.net or our Facebook page.

apologies if I'm wrong in this, but have the results for Phoenix Park Tuesday August 15th been overwritten by Phoenix Park Tuesday August 22nd?

They're in the right place now. Still trying to resolve the results from the 15th, though: problems with an SI unit.

The results for both the 15th and 22nd August are now on line here http://www.orienteering.ie/result2

The August 15th event had two problems: a control on the Short course (#159) was vandalised, so some runners found it and some didn't. It was found and replaced but it was vandalised again and is still missing. Any runner missing only this control was credited with having found it. Unfortunately, when this happens, the Splitsbrowser function in the results doesn't work, although you can still see the actual split times.

Secondly, a control on the Medium course (#169) started to give very long split times, about 12 and 24 hours longer than they should be. When we checked the time it afterwards was about 18 hours slow, but the date was 18th January 1948 even though the firmware had been upgraded and the clock set recently.

On the evening of the event, control 11 (#169) was replaced by control #174 and most runners were unaffected. For those who were, the results ignore the split time for leg 10-11 and the split time for the following leg is a cumulative one for legs 10 to 12. Again, this means that Splitsbrowser doesn't work but the split times table in HTML is OK.

Some people (even some very experienced orienteers), in the heat of the moment, failed to punch the start, so their race times started at 10.00. These have been given new start times corresponding to the earliest start time (18.00) to make their time more realistic. Next time, please remember to punch the start after you take your map!

Sorry that it took this long to sort the results out, and thanks to IOA Webmaster Martin Flynn for his help. If anyone has experienced this before, or has any information or suggestions, please let us have them on the Forum.

Hopefully next week's event at the Furry Glen (August 29th) will go smoothly. We are hoping that people will come and start earlier (6 to 7pm) so that we can finish up and get the controls in before dark, as the evenings are closing in.

Finally, please note that the next 3ROC event on September 17th has had to be moved to the Pine Forest, Rockbrook, due to circumstances outside our control.

Hi Everyone,

I left my description holder on start during one of the events. Does anyone perhaps have it?

Thanks,

Anna

Anna, we have a control description holder from one of the events. If you e-mail 3roc@orienteering.ie we can arrange to get it back to you.

The results from the final event, with Routegadget, are now up on http://www.orienteering.ie.

very enjoyable orienteering the other night - the first few on the long (except no. 1) were a bit route-choice free but 14 onwards was helter-skelter! I've never made so many mistakes in such a short space of time, let alone in the Phoenix Park!

Thanks Aidan & 3ROC.

Also a shout out to Amalia on her debut as planner 3 weeks ago - another great event!
