Came across this in back office today when clearing out some old filing cabinets, it's a tactile map with braille legend, created by someone here in Baltinglass Outdoor Education and Training at least 15 years or more ago. I find it very interesting and just wondering if anyone else has ever come acorss such a thing or maybe is it something somebody already uses such things? I've only deciphered the first line of braille and it says 'key for orienteering map'. I reckon the idea of it come definitely be developed if not already done so. For the visually impaired it would definitely open up possiblities to enter our sport, and even the partially sighted who can make out their surroundings, such as boulders, streams, paths etc., but can't actually read a standard flat paper map. Any comments or opinons?

After asking around about map I've been informed that it was made up for a visually impaired group that visited Blessington Adventure centre (now known as Avon Rí) in 1992 or 1993.
They asked a braille expert to design it and then it was made by the prisoners in Arbour Hill prisoner, as they'd braille making tools there at the time.
I deciphered the legend, as you can see in the photo with hand writing and then converted that into a map that we might recognise, I found it interesting anyway so decided to share.
