The next event in the Summer Series takes place next Tuesday night (23rd) on our urban Naas map.

Registration/Start and Finish are all based in the rear carpark in Naas Hospital - the event will be signposted from the main hospital entrance

Google maps: https://www.google.ie/maps/place/53°12'41.9"N+6°39'37.0"W/

Start times are from 18:30 to 20:00, and there are three courses as usual:

Adventure: 1.5km

Medium: 2.2km (Sprint format)

Long: 4.1km (Sprint Format)

The event is planned/organised by Eileen Loughman and Kevin O'Boyle, and promises to be a good evening out for all the family.

Entry fees are the standard €5 for Children/Students, €8 for Adults and €20 for a family (2 adults + kids) - SI cards can be rented at registration for €2 (€40 fee if not returned)

Hope to see you all there, maybe the weather will be as good as last week 🙂

Dave,

Can you fix the URL link for google maps, currently it's not actually anywhere on the planet!

Hi Finn

The link above is ok its just not completely highlighted. If you copy and paste all of it into google it will work.

Google maps: https://www.google.ie/maps/place/53%C2%B012'41.9%22N+6%C2%B039'37.0%22W/@53.2116389,-6.6624665,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d53.2116389!4d-6.6602778

Thanks Hugh,

I was totally aware that was the solution, interstingly the link you posted above works perfectly in a browser, but the google maps app on my phone didn't like and said it was unsupported, but of course I could send it to my phone.  Technology is a pain in the posterior at the best of times.  It seemes to me the issue is that the link highlighter on the forum is possiby the culprit, not anything you, I or Dave are doing.

See you on Tuesday

Finn

Great fun last night, thanks to all CNOC folk... the long leg to 6 remains controversial (I'm now thinking back through the start would have been best). My routegadget is up for embarassment....

lovely evening, great buzz about the event.

see you in Donadea.

Gav, you must have Jesus-like qualities with all the lakes you cut across. No wonder you were so fast!

Many thanks to all the organisers. It was my first time o-ing in Naas and it's an ideal location. Really enjoyed it!

I did have to do a few tricks with loaves and fishes (and RouteGadget):
when I put up the RG up each blue dot was was about 20/30m further along the line then where I could see the change in direction of the line (ie indicating where I'd actually found the flag and generally changed direction after). I manually put dots on each change in direction on the red line and dragged them into the circles, but it did leave me walking on water the odd time which I couldn't fix.

Has anyone ever seen this on RouteGadget and know the cause? My stopwatch matches the result and I didn't have to do this with the start & finish....

How did you upload the route?
If you do it via the time syncing it automatically places the start and finish at the correct places, on the map.

One issue is that you often start your watch in a different place to the start kite (e.g. because there is a run to the start). When you are using the time sync feature there should be a screen with a slider in the right panel at one step which you can adjust to change the start offset. In your case it sounds like you want to shift down some seconds.

Thanks Roar,

I used the 'Splits' based calibration (not 'Manual'). The start & kite were the same place... I've tried the slider thing before but it makes it worse - sends me all over the map.

Thanks to all who organised another enjoyable event. Just one thing that I thought was worth posting was that I thought the quality of the map printing was quite poor. I'm not sure if this is due to the small symbol size on a 1:5000 sprint map or printing issues but either way I thought it was quite disappointing. As I mentioned, despite this, I enjoyed the event as usual and have booked in at the local specsavers in preperation for next week
