The map of Deerpark has also been updated since last used by Pat Healy using lidar data, plus some addition by Dave and myself.  The wood has matured nicely with fromerly green areas now white, some thinned, and some clearing of rhodadendrons

Myself, Killian B and Mike B spent nearly 40 minutes trying to outsneak each other around the Brown course... I lost out trying a direct cross-country route to 18 (around by the road was quicker).

many thanks for Dave/Chris/Ciaran and other Fingalians for a very enjoyable run around Deer Park.

I had a lot of fun, thanks Fingal. Difficult conditions for helpers etc. I waited out the hail strom in the car and it was quite pleasant in the woods.
I\'m curious as to what paper you used. It wasn\'t aqualaser. I started with map out of bag but had it in by control 7 as I reckon the reverse would have been iffy by the time I flipped map over.

Hi Angus,
we were using EnDURO Grade \'Premium 155 T\' from the table below.
I will be having a meeting with our Dublin based printer and his paper supplier as Fingal O was not happy with how it performed in the conditions (even though Storm Ewan isn\'t a regular occurrence).
Ian.

Thanks Ian,
Worth refering to previous thread here on this topic

Yesterday\'s conditions were difficult but not unusual for an O event. You had the bags and so it worked out fine but I agree that the map was not robust enough. I mentioned I had map out of bag. The rain/hail had stopped though was still wet, but I didn\'t think conditions were bad but the map was deteriorating a bit too quick for my liking and quicker than I\'m accustomed to compared to aqualaser. Aqualaser is not brilliant either as many found at a Knocksink event couple years back and it tends to soak up dirt reducing legibility especially in boggy conditions.
Having waterproof maps with no bag is great, but it deasn\'t beat the clarity of printing on good quality \'normal\' paper and bagging it. This I found out after IOC2014

I would like to applaud and commend Fingal for providing bags yesterday and not not just for providing bags but for providing good quality, sealable, bags. Well done and thank you! I wish other planners/organisers and controllers would take note. If I had my way I would ban the use of polypockets and the like at all orienteering events.

Enjoyed the event - thanks and well done.
